Limitations

The purpose of NHS dentistry is to provide dental health. Therefore certain procedures such as white fillings in posterior teeth are considered “cosmetic” and are not included in the NHS contract.

 

NHS and private treatment can be carried out within the same course of treatment.

The following list is a simplification of the treatments available under the NHS.

  • White fillings on the front 6 upper and lower teeth.
  • Amalgam fillings on posterior premolar and molar teeth.
  • Economy White crowns on the front 10 upper and lower teeth.
  • All metal crowns on molar teeth
  • Replacement of veneers
  • Periodontal (gum) treatment
  • Root canal treatment
  • Extractions
  • Economy acrylic and metal base dentures
